FINSENY organized a workshop in The Future Networks & Mobile Summit 2012 in Berlin, Germany, July 5, 2012

The FI-PPP use case project FINSENY organized a workshop in this event in order to make the communication networks community aware of newly upcoming requirements from vertical sectors like smart energy

The Future Networks & Mobile Summit 2012 is the show case of EU collaborative research projects in the ICT domain. This year’s event took place in Berlin, Germany, on July 4th to 6th, 2012. The workshop addressed a wide area of scenarios with the following presentations:

Workshop 8c: FINSENY – Defining the Opportunities for ICT in Smart Energy

Chair: Fiona Williams, Ericsson GmbH, Germany

·      Overview of FINSENY FI-PPP Project
Werner Mohr, Nokia Siemens Networks GmbH & Co. KG, Germany

·      FINSENY – Future Internet and Smart Distribution Network
Werner Mohr, Nokia Siemens Networks GmbH & Co. KG, Germany

·      Future Internet Requirements for Microgrid Development
Juergen Goetz, Siemens AG, Germany

·      Smart Building Energy Management: A “Future Internet” Perspective
Gilles Privat, Orange Labs, France

·      Electric Mobility – Driving Change in the Smart Grid
Mark Daly, ESB, Ireland

After an introduction into the FI-PPP the relation between ICT and smart energy was presented for smart distribution networks, microgrid deployments, smart building energy management and electric mobility in order to give an overview about the entire area.

The workshop was attended by about 40 participants. In particular, representatives from regulators (EU Commission and BNetzA – the Germany regulator) raised questions on frequency spectrum usage for wireless communication systems for data aggregation, collection and control as well as data privacy. More such discussions are needed to get a better mutual understanding between the different communities, what are the requirements and needs of the energy sector and what the ICT community can offer.
